Shlohmo

My last post mentioned this young, LA talent. Since then, Shlohmo's debut album, Bad Vibes has dropped. If by bad, Shlohmo means incredibly good, then I wholeheartedly agree with the naming. Shlohmo, aka Henry Laufer is a member of the WEDIDIT Collective, a group of LA, (hipsters, most likely) "...dudes and guys...who make shit and want to give you the shit we make". Laufer is the Collective's biggest name and is part of LA's rapidly developing beat scene, like those on the widely successful Brainfeeder Records. WEDIDIT also has strong ties to the New York scene as well, so Shlohmo seems to be in the perfect position for a quick ascension to fame.

Critics have been raving about Bad Vibes so far and rightfully so. The interplay between the muted beats, ethereal voices, and ambient qualities draw you in and keep you interested. It definitely offers the kind of sounds you would want to chill out to.

These first two tracks are off of Bad Vibes, and give you a sense of the album as a whole.

Just because Laufer's tracks are on the chill side, doesn't mean he can't change it up and turn rap songs into lo-fi, noisey goodness.

I love Baths and I love Shlohmo, put them together and it's pure, experimental magic.

You can catch Shlohmo live in New York City on September 17th.

Cheers!
